What geese actually do
They arrive high and in family groups — skeins of three to nine with a lead bird, not singles.
They lose altitude in steps, not on a smooth glide. Each lap they either drop a rung or they do not.
The money moment is the hang — they drop a wing over the spread and either commit or flare.
Wind sets the landing line. Geese finish into the wind, so a crosswind moves the window to a different part of the circle.
The vocabulary
Honk — long reach. Turns a passing skein.
Cluck — the workhorse. Keeps them interested on the way in.
Double-cluck — rhythm. Keeps a circling flock turning and stepping down.
Moan — soft and close. Content birds on the ground.
Spit note — the finisher. Only when they are already hanging.
How you lose them
Call when they are quartering away and looking — that is the window, and the game shows you when it is open.
Overcalling a committed flock flares it. Once their feet are down, the best call is no call.
Hammering the same note builds pressure. Let the meter fall before you speak again.

own rule — know your season and your state before you assume any of them apply to you.
